Recognising our top Year 12 students’ achievements

Today I joined the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AM at an awards ceremony at Government House to formally acknowledge the outstanding academic achievements of our top Year 12 students in the 2015 Tasmanian Certificate of Education.

Ceremonies such as this are an important opportunity to recognise the achievements of students who are making the most of their time at school to achieve fabulous results.

Improving retention rates and extending schools to Years 11 and 12 is a priority of the Hodgman Liberal Government. We want to ensure all Tasmanian students leave school equipped with the tools for them to reach their full potential in life after school.

The top three students in the State; Adeline Gabriel from St Michael's Collegiate School, Lewis Johnson from Hobart College, and Sylvia Lawrence from St Michael's Collegiate School received a perfect score of  99.95, and join 31 other Tasmanian students who received a Tertiary Entrance Rank of 99.5 or above. These students will receive certificates recognising their exceptional achievements.

There were 23 Tasmanian students who demonstrated excellence in VET programs (as judged by an independent panel of experts) and successfully achieved their Tasmanian Certificate of Education, and will also receive certificates recognising their outstanding results.

Every student in Tasmania has the capacity to achieve their Tasmanian Certificate of Education and we are putting in place programs that provide our students and their families with the support to make this possible.

I’d like to congratulate all the students on their hard work and for attaining fantastic academic results.

Teachers and school leaders also deserve credit for these results, and I’d like to thank them for their commitment and dedication in helping our students to reach their study goals. My thanks also go to the Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification staff for administering the TCE results.
