As part of Tasmanian National Science Week (August 2 to 27) 2017 celebrations, the Tasmanian STEM Excellence Awards for science, technology, engineering and maths are officially open for nominations.
Tasmania has been at the forefront of scientific research in Australia for a long time – while having only 2.4 per cent of the population, we are home to 4.2 per cent of the nation’s scientific research organisations, and this is something we should proudly recognise.
The Hodgman Liberal Government recognises the sector as a key economic driver and employer within the state, and each year up to $500 million is invested and spent annually in the science research sector and about 3200 people are employed in such roles.
As part of the awards the Government has partnered with Engineers Australia, the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and Inspiring Australia, to recognise excellence through the STEM awards.
These are the preeminent awards for our local science practitioners, researchers, teachers and students, with a total prize pool of $30,000 up for grabs.
