Recognising and rewarding great educators and employees

I encourage all Tasmanians to recognise our very best public educators and those who provide essential education services by submitting a nomination in the 2017 Department of Education Awards for Excellence (DoE Awards).

Now in its sixth year, the DoE Awards is an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the outstanding excellence, innovation and talent in 2016 of the staff and volunteers who work in schools and colleges, LINCs, and Child and Family Centres across Tasmania.

Recognising excellence is important, not only in rewarding people for their outstanding work, but also because it provides an opportunity to share information and inspirational insights, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes for our students and Building Tasmania’s Future.

Fourteen award categories, representing the skills of individuals across the entire education portfolio, are available for nomination.

An initiative of the department, the DoE Awards would not be possible without the generous support of major sponsor, Tasplan as well as Teachers Health, Telstra and Wrest Point.

Teachers ensure students have the best possible start in life, and they are having a positive influence on  the significant improvements across our education system, with NAPLAN results taking us closer to Australian mean scores, increases in enrolments at the high schools extending to Years 11 and 12, and consistent improvements in retention to year 12 and students gaining their TCE.

Nominations for the awards are open until Tuesday 13 June, and finalists will be invited to a state-wide awards ceremony on 20 October, where award winners will be announced.

For more information about the awards go to DoE Awards page.
