RACT looks to Greater Hobart's future mobility

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to building on the many exciting possibilities on the horizon for our capital city, while also effectively managing and planning for the pressures our city faces as it grows.

We welcome the RACT’s Greater Hobart Mobility Vision and the substantial body of work that this represents.

There appears to be synergies between the Vision and the Government’s existing plans to deal with the transport pressures our city faces now, as well as the longer-term challenges.

I have asked Infrastructure Tasmania to review the Vision and provide further feedback to me in due course.

A lot of the suggested future work represented in the Vision will involve working closely with the Greater Hobart councils, and the future uses of land and infrastructure for which local councils are responsible.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has moved to provide structures to enable such a collaborative approach, with work already underway through the recent signing of a Hobart City Deal in partnership with the Australian Government.

In addition, our Greater Hobart Act legislation has been developed to provide a much needed framework to support collaborative decision making between the Greater Hobart councils of Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough; and the Tasmanian Government.

We look forward to working closely with RACT to achieve our shared goals of a liveable city, which provides a mix of transport options.
