EMBARGOED UNTIL 12.01 am Monday February 27
The Port Arthur historic site will today welcome over 2500 passengers who have arrived on board the majestic cruise ship, the Queen Mary II.
This is the first time the Queen Mary II has visited our beautiful state, and what a way to make a first impression on passengers, docking at Tasmania’s iconic historical site, before heading on to Hobart.
Passengers will immerse themselves in Tasmania’s vibrant heritage and cultural experiences, sample our extraordinary food and beverages, and sample our amazing way of life.
The cruise industry plays an important role in Tasmania’s tourism industry, bringing thousands of visitors to our shores, and has a key role to play to achieve our T21 vision to grow visitor numbers to 1.5 million by 2020.
This cruise season will see a record 95 cruise ships coming to Tasmania, up from 56 last year, which highlights the increasing contribution cruise ships are making to the long-term strength of Tasmania’s visitor economy.
We will continue to work with the tourism industry to further grow Tasmania’s visitor economy and the contribution it makes to Tasmania’s economy and jobs.
