Queechy High School’s Golden Diversity F1 launch

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to launch Golden Diversity’s Campaign for the World F1 in Schools Championships, to be held in Malaysia in September 2017.

The Government donated $2500 each to both Queechy High School and Launceston College’s Envisity and Golden Diversity F1 teams, kicking off the campaign to take on the world in the 2017 World Finals of the F1 in Schools™ Technology Challenge. Golden Diversity will represent Australia in the Professional Class at the F1 in Schools World Final in Kuala Lumpa.

Earlier this year the first ever all-female team Golden Diversity, from Queechy High School, took out the top prize as National Champions in the Professional Class, winning Best Verbal Presentation, Best Team Portfolio, Best Manufactured Car and Best Engineered Car.

F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for school children (aged 11-16), in which groups of three to six students design and manufacture a miniature “car” out of the official F1 Model Block. These cars can reach 80km down a 20m track, powered by Co2 canisters.

As the largest STEM based competition worldwide, reaching 35,000 Australian students each year and over nine million students internationally, F1 in Schools focuses on developing long term employability skills.

With the 2017 Australian team made up of almost 50 per cent representation from Tasmania, this is an excellent achievement for all the students involved.

I encourage the community to get on board and support Golden Diversity’s campaign for the world championships.
