Congratulations to the students at Queechy High School who were recognised for their fantastic efforts in the F1 in Schools National Final in Adelaide - taking first and third place.
F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for school children (aged 11-16), in which groups of three to six students have to design and manufacture a miniature “car” out of the official F1 Model Block.
The all-female team Golden Diversity took out the top prize as National Champions in the Professional Class, winning Best Verbal Presentation, Best Team Portfolio, Best Manufactured Car and Best Engineered Car.
Instant Transmission also representing Queechy High School finished in third place with Best Engineered CAD, Knockout Champions, Grand Prix Race Award and Fastest Lap.
A third team from Queechy High School, Zeal Tech Racing, who were competing in their first national final, won the Grand Prix Race Award and Fast Lap in the Development Class.
Golden Diversity will now represent Australia in the Professional Class at the F1 in Schools World Final in Kuala Lumpur in late September 2017.
I would like to congratulate Murat Djakic, Queechy’s STEM co-ordinator, Donna Frankcombe, Adrian Smith and all the students who participated in this fantastic event. It is a wonderful achievement for both you and your school – as well as our State.
I would also like to recognise Bell Bay Aluminium who have supported and contributed to the F1 in Schools in Tasmania over the past 10 years.
This is an amazing achievement as it is the first time in Australia that an all-girls team has won and also the first time in the Australian competition that a single school has enjoyed so much success.
