The Hodgman Liberal Government has been working hard to address the issues of homelessness and housing shortage in Tasmania.
The Quarterly Housing Report released today shows that the Government’s targets to provide more social housing, increase home ownership and unlock more land for new homes are on track to be achieved by June 2019.
Rapid Rehousing continues to provide safe and affordable private rental accommodation to those vulnerable households escaping family violence, with 119 households assisted to date.
We have opened a 9-unit youth at risk facility in Moonah and a 25-unit youth supported accommodation facility in Devonport, targeted particularly at young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Over the quarter, the Hodgman Liberal Government delivered on our commitment to construct 78 new units, which are now online across the state.
We also have boosted the HomeShare assistance which is available to eligible low income earners from a maximum of $59,119 to $81,255. This increase includes new homes and house and land packages, and when combined with the Government’s first home builder’s incentive, potentially represents over $100,000 in Government assistance.
Through the Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan 2015-2019, we have set a number of targets to provide more affordable homes to vulnerable Tasmanians.
So far, we have assisted 878 new households as at the end of June 2018, including:
We have supplied 533 new affordable land lots and homes for Tasmanians, and are on track to assist over 1600 households by June 2019, including a new supply of 941 affordable lots and homes.
We know there is more work to do, that is why this month we will commence consultation for the next stage of our Affordable Housing Strategy to address the entire housing spectrum from home ownership to affordable rental, public and community housing and crisis accommodation, across all demographics, in all regions of the State.
