Protecting Tasmanian children at risk

Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our children.

That’s why the Hodgman Liberal Government committed an extra $24 million in the 2018-19 Budget to support the Strong Families, Safe Kids redesign, employing more child safety officers and other frontline staff, and assisting vulnerable children with very complex needs in out-of-home care.

As a result of this funding, new Child Safety Officer positions will be advertised this weekend to support the redesign.

The new CSO positions will assist in supporting vulnerable and at risk children and their families, to provide them with the support they need and allow them the best possible chances in life.

This funding is on top of a total investment of $51.2 million committed in our first term to better support families and children at risk, an out of home care system which provides the best possible care, and including the Strong Families, Safe Kids redesign that is already seeing improvements.

While we know there is more work to be done, we are getting on with the job and assisting Tasmania’s most vulnerable children.

Applications close on Sunday, 29 July and I encourage anyone interested to contact the Department for further information.
