Protecting and promoting Tasmania as the eco-tourism capital of the world

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government has a Plan for Tasmania to be the eco-tourism capital of the world, and with National Geographic last week confirming Tasmania as the #1 adventure tourism destination globally, we are delivering for Tasmanians.

Our Plan is to continue growing our visitor economy across all Tasmanian regions, investing in Parks infrastructure to encourage visitors to stay longer, spend more and travel further.

That’s why we have invested a record $31 million over four years to enhance visitor experiences and future proof our parks infrastructure to drive tourism growth in every corner of our State.

The Tasmanian Government is delivering our commitment to improve visitor experiences, including our $56.8 million upgrades to Cradle Mountain. These investments will help continue to boost visitor numbers, which are already up 25% since March 2014.

Furthermore, we are harnessing our competitive advantage with the stunning Tyndall Ranges on Tasmania’s west coast announced as the preferred location for our next iconic walk. We are also delivering our Freycinet Peninsula Master Plan, having secured a further $7.2 million in Federal funding for key projects, to improve and future-proof infrastructure for this important location.

The significant increase in spend and visitor numbers is a result of our strong economy and a clear sign that our plan is working. With 67% of visitor nights now spent outside of Hobart, we must maintain the momentum so more of our regions benefit.
