The Liberal Government is committed to ensuring Tasmanians pay energy prices that are fair, sustainable and as low as possible.
Today's draft determination by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) on Tasmanian electricity transmission charges provides for further welcome relief for Tasmanian consumers.
The AER has endorsed TasNetworks' transmission revenue proposal for the 2014-19 regulatory period, which will see falls of between $10-$16 in 2015-16 power bills. The AER will make its final determination in April 2015.
Under Labor, power prices in Tasmania rose 75 per cent in six years. After years of facing skyrocketing power prices, there has been welcome price relief for Tasmanian consumers this year with the repeal of the Carbon Tax reducing bills by an average of $164 for residential customers.
The Liberal Government wants to again make energy a competitive advantage for Tasmania, and this means continuing to work with our Government-owned Energy Businesses to deliver sustainably low power prices for both households and businesses.
We are currently working to develop Tasmania's first comprehensive, whole-of-state Energy Strategy to help us deliver this goal.
