The Liberal Government is committed to implementing a multi-faceted program to target road safety challenges in a strong, effective and integrated manner.
Tasmanians will be given a powerful reminder that road safety is everyone's responsibility with the return to television tomorrow night of the Road Torque program.
Road Torque, a five-part series of three-minute television segments, is an important initiative, highlighting road safety issues to the community.
Tomorrow's segment will focus on the consequences of speeding, with a young man and his brother talking about the crash they had due to speed and the profound and damaging effects that this had on their lives.
Produced by Southern Cross Television, and sponsored by the Road Safety Advisory Council and the RACT, the program screens during the Monday night news broadcast.
Initiatives such as Road Torque are important to get the message across to all Tasmanians that disregarding road rules, or a moment of inattention, can have tragic and long-lasting consequences.
It is not only those who suffer in the moment of a crash, it is also the effect that loss and trauma can have on family and friends, and it can follow people all their lives.
Southern Cross is a strong road safety supporter, and by screening this program during the high-rating nightly news we hope it will reach a great many Tasmanian road users.
