Productivity Commission report confirms prices lower under Government takeover, Labor rules out lower prices

In an extraordinary own goal, TasWater has highlighted that water and sewerage prices will be cheaper under a Government takeover.

The Productivity Commission report in effect confirms that the Government’s proposal would lead to lower charges for Tasmanians.

Charging higher and higher prices for water and sewerage may get the thumbs up from TasWater and economists in Canberra, but that money is coming straight out of the pockets of Tasmanians who can least afford it.

The Government makes no apology for wanting to tackle the cost of living and keep water and sewerage charges as low as possible. We have done it with electricity prices, ensuring that Tasmanians are shielded from the up to 20 per cent rises on the mainland by capping household prices at 2 per cent, whilst still ensuring our electricity businesses are sustainable.

As for Labor, Rebecca White still doesn’t have a position.  Once again, Labor is sitting on the fence and refuses to have a position.  Yesterday, in an interview with the Advocate, she refused to say if Labor would roll back the Government’s reforms if elected.

It shows that only the Hodgman Government can be trusted to tackle the cost of living.
