The Government welcomes the release of Part A of the 2015 Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania, which was tabled in Parliament today.
Part A of the Study provides an update on the key trends in gaming in Tasmania and examines the prevalence of gaming in the State. This part of the SEIS is conducted on a regular basis and builds upon information from the previous SEIS reports (2008 and 2011). Part B, which will be completed shortly, will provide a comprehensive review of the existing harm minimisation framework.
Part A of the Study shows that, since 2011, problem gambling rates have declined, participation and frequency rates are down and the amount spent on gambling has been declining since 2008-09.
The Government is committed to tackling problem gambling and we look forward to receiving Part B of the Study, which considers the harm minimisation framework that was developed and implemented by the Tasmanian Gaming Commission in response to the 2011 Economic Impact Study of Gambling.
