Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is about to begin, and I encourage all Tasmanian students from Prep to Year 6 to take up the challenge.

Tasmanian students are challenged to read at least one book a week across 10 weeks, from June 14 to August 23.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a great way to encourage young Tasmanians to gain a life-long love of books and reading.

As one of the most famous authors in the world, Dr Seuss said: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you will go.”

They are very truthful words. Reading is one of the most important things we can do in life.

Books are essential for learning and understanding. They can open a window to adventures and exciting ideas from all over the world.

Participation in the challenge continues to increase, with 163 schools registering last year, and close to 32,000 students taking part. The challenge is free and fun, and a great opportunity for young Tasmanians to read with their friends and their family.

All participating students receive Challenge stickers, bookmark/ruler and pencil, with students who submit online book reviews in the running to receive one of six weekly $15 book voucher prizes.

Students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate and go into the draw to win one of three $100 book vouchers. Registered schools can win a visit from Tasmanian author, Sally Odgers and have a chance to win one of three $500 prizes to buy library books.
