Premier's Reading Challenge Success

I congratulate a record number of Tasmanian students who completed the 2014 Premier's Reading Challenge.

More than 31,000 Tasmanian students accepted the challenge to read 10 books over 10 weeks, and 14,000 students completed the challenge – the best completion rate since 2008.

Overall our students read tales from the pages of more than 140,000 books and shared their thoughts through more than 1,300 book reviews.

But most importantly, these young Tasmanians were encouraged to read regularly to foster a love for books and reading.

I was pleased to present certificates to students from Port Sorell, Molesworth and Mole Creek primary schools, where a high percentage of students completed the challenge.

Reading and literacy skills are the basic building blocks for life, and books can open a world of adventure.

I congratulate all the students who took part and thank their parents and teachers who provided support and encouragement during the seventh annual Premier's Reading Challenge.
