Premier launches 2014 Red Shield Appeal with $30,000 donation

It is with great pleasure that today I launched the 2014 Red Shield Appeal, and kick started the appeal with a $30 000 donation from the State Government.

The Liberal Government is committed to working with the community sector to better align support to families and individuals experiencing disadvantage.

We are investing in reforms to build the strength and resilience of individuals, and creating partnerships with the community sector to create a joined-up support system.

Already we have committed to provide $9 million in extra funding to ensure community organisations receive appropriate indexation to meet increased demands on their services, and increased operational costs.

We know that Tasmanians are generous people.

During the weekend of 24 and 25 May, 2 000 volunteers will be knocking on our doors seeking support through the Appeal's door knock campaign.

Funds from the Appeal help ensure The Salvation Army in Tasmania can continue to provide services such as emergency relief, financial counselling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation services; and providing places of safety for women and children escaping family violence.

I encourage Tasmanians to consider supporting the Red Shield Appeal in any way they can.
