Power prices remain amongst the lowest in the country

The Hodgman Government is committed to ensuring regulated power prices are as low as possible in Tasmania.

Tasmanians will never forget that household and small business  power prices surged by 65 per cent under the former Labor-Green Government, causing immense pain to households struggling to pay the bills.  By contrast, household and small business power prices have actually decreased under the Hodgman Government.

The report released today by the Tasmanian Economic Regulator confirms Tasmania’s power prices remain amongst the lowest in the country thanks to the strong actions we have taken to keep prices as low as possible.  This includes legislation to keep power price increases capped at two per cent for this financial year, resulting in a saving of around $300 for the average Tasmanian household.

The report also confirmed that Tasmanian small businesses enjoy the lowest electricity rates in the country, while concession customers receive the second-lowest rates.

While the report is pleasing, we know there is more to do.  That’s why we have set a target for Tasmania to have the lowest regulated electricity prices in the country by the end of the next term of Government.
