Poor Showing from Labor on New Burnie Timber Mill Proposal

Rebecca White’s failure to show support for a proposed new timber mill, creating 250 jobs in Burnie, demonstrates Labor remains too close to the Greens.

Australian Sustainable Hardwoods has said publicly that it has not asked for any Government support and yet Ms White today has talked down the project on radio.

Parroting the same line as the Greens, Ms White has been less than welcoming of this potential investment and the jobs that it would bring to North-West Tasmania.

Her comments contrast starkly with the support of Burnie Mayor – and likely Braddon Labor candidate – Anita Dow, who must now be questioning whether she would want to run under such a wishy-washy leader.

This highlights again how you cannot trust Labor to support our resource industries.

They sold out forest workers under the previous Labor-Green government and even now in Opposition they are dancing to Cassy O’Connor’s tune.

Australian Sustainable Hardwoods is investigating this project in no small part because we have a majority Liberal Government that is pursuing investment and jobs – our number one priority.
