Plantation sale to benefit health

Health will be the big winner from the Hodgman Liberal Government’s plantation timber sale deal announced today.

The deal is expected to deliver around $15 million extra to our record $658 million boost to the health Budget.

This will ensure Tasmania’s frontline health services are better resourced – with more staff, more beds and more services.

It’s important to highlight that this additional $15 million would not be going towards health under a Labor Green Government as they have consistently opposed our moves to make the forestry industry more sustainable and opposed the sale.

To make matters worse, today in parliament the Labor Party supported the Greens attempts to bring on a debate on a motion to oppose the deal.

Under them there would be no record investment and no additional funding to health, with Labor’s only policy the thought bubble medi-hotel scheme and not a single new bed to help bed block.

The Hodgman Government has a plan to deliver better health services to Tasmanians and the skills to implement it.
