Planning reform vital for unlocking our economic potential and creating jobs

Delivering a single, state-wide planning scheme is vital for unlocking our economic potential and creating jobs.

The current planning system is like a handbrake on our economy and we need to reform it now.

The Liberal Government's number one priority is jobs. The very first decision the cabinet took was to scrap headworks charges, an action has seen the number of building and plumbing applications nearly double.

We’re getting the budget back in the black years ahead of schedule, which means we can invest $315 million in a job stimulus package and $1.8 billion in infrastructure as well as record amounts in health and education.

We’ve supported business which has seen confidence skyrocket to the highest in the nation.

A single state-wide planning scheme is the next step in our long-term Plan.

A single scheme will mean that it will be easier to get developments, such as the Glebe Hill estate development that I visited today, underway with shovels in the ground and more jobs right around the State.

I look forward to Parliament debating the new planning laws this week.
