Planned upgrades for Bruny Island Main Road

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed to improving safety on Bruny Island Main Road, as part of the Roads Package to Support Tasmania’s Visitor Economy.

We have allocated $6 million to continue the sealing of Bruny Island Main Road, with Tasmanian company Hazell Bros contracted to do the initial planning and project design.

The two sections being prioritised are between Alonnah and Lunawanna, and a short section between Lunawanna and Lighthouse Road.

Project planning is underway and the Department of State Growth will be carrying out initial field investigations on site from 13 May to 7 June 2019.

These site investigations include engineering, environmental, geotechnical, and European and Aboriginal heritage surveys.

These investigations, together with feedback received through community and stakeholder consultation, will be used to develop a final road design.

Road upgrades are scheduled to start in late 2019.
