Braddon Liberal MP Adam Brooks has launched an online petition to call on the salmon industry to stop the controversial practice of using the North-West Coast as a dumping ground for rogue seals.
“I support the salmon industry and the jobs it creates, but I don’t accept the industry should relocate troublesome southern seals that break into fish pens,” Mr Brooks said.
“The answer is for the industry to install seal proof pens and while the industry says it wants to do that, it is not happening fast enough.
“It’s not good enough for the industry to think North-West Coast recreational and commercial fishers will stand by and accept this practice for another year.
“It must be made a priority and the entirely legitimate concerns of those on the Coast must be taken into account.
“I encourage those concerned about this practice to sign the petition.”
