The Department of State Growth is applying normal contract management processes to ensure that the civil contractor constructing the Perth to Breadalbane project rectifies a defective seal at the northern end of the works. Standard Departmental road construction contracts require the contractor to build a road that meets the specified outcomes and is fit for purpose. The contractor will repair the seal during the first window of suitable weather in spring, but will maintain the road in a safe condition for all road users until the repair can be undertaken.
While the aim is always to build projects without any defects, for a range of reasons they do sometimes occur. When this does happen, defects are rectified as soon as possible, without compromising the safety of road users.
The Perth to Breadalbane project is progressing very well and the Department and contractor expect a high quality project to be delivered slightly ahead of schedule.
