Pembroke by-election a clear choice on lower water prices

Local health professional and Clarence City Council Alderman James Walker will contest the upcoming Pembroke by-election for the Liberal Party.

Mr Walker said that he was excited and humbled to follow in the footsteps of Dr Vanessa Goodwin as the endorsed Liberal candidate for Pembroke.

“I grew up in Lindisfarne, and now I live here with my young family, right in the heart of Pembroke”, Mr Walker said.

“I’m a health professional and have been an Alderman on Clarence City Council since 2012.

“I believe I’m well qualified to represent the Eastern shore in the Legislative Council, and I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as I can in the coming weeks of the campaign.”

The Premier, Will Hodgman, said that while it will be tough for the Liberal Party to retain the seat, it presented an opportunity for people to have their say on the important issue of the TasWater takeover.

“Given the current debate about our Plan to take control of TasWater, the Pembroke election provides a clear choice on lower water prices.

“I know that many people are struggling with the bills, and this includes TasWater bills – we have to keep prices lower.

“Under our Plan, households will save up to $550 compared to the status quo.

“So this election will be about who’s best able to take real action on the cost of living.

“If you want lower water prices, you will need to vote for Mr Walker”, the Premier said.
