Paul Harriss has today announced he will retire as a member of the Government, and the Parliament of Tasmania, after 20 years in public office.
Paul has made a tremendous contribution to our State, with a sincere passion for improving the lives of Tasmanians, particularly those living in regional areas and who work in pillar industries such as forestry and mining. During his 20 years in Parliament, Paul has been a committed and active local member for the Huon and Franklin electorates.
Paul took a courageous decision when he resigned a safe Upper House seat and joined the Liberal team at the 2014 State Election.
On becoming Minister, and inheriting a near destroyed forestry sector, Paul has led its revival. He has guided the mining industry in challenging times, and has been a strong advocate for our resource based industries.
Public office presents many exciting opportunities to change our State for the better, but it is also a demanding occupation. I respect Paul’s decision to put his family first.
