The Hodgman Liberal Government has a long term plan for education to improve educational outcomes and create a job ready generation of young Tasmanians.
That is why we are proud to launch a literacy initiative which will help lift the educational achievement of East Devonport Primary School’s students.
Improving literacy standards is in line with our goal to be at or above the national average on every NAPLAN measurement by 2020.
East Devonport Primary is the first Tasmanian school to be selected as part of the Dymocks Children’s Charities Library Regeneration program.
Participation and engagement by students with their own education will help engage them with their future and help them reach their potential. Thanks to assistance from Petuna, the school’s 270 students can now enjoy 1500 new library books, which they will choose themselves.
The East Devonport Primary students will soon be able to enjoy these new resources in a refurbished learning environment, as the school is one of four whose major refurbishment and construction works will be brought forward as part of the Government’s Northern Economic Stimulus Package.
Capital works due to commence in 2018-19 will now be completed in 2017-18, with East Devonport Primary School to receive $1.8 million for improved contemporary learning areas.
With the budget back on track the Hodgman Liberal Government is investing heavily in education, committing a record $6 billion over the forward estimates. We are employing more teachers and support staff, school nurses, new literacy and numeracy specialists, and most importantly, providing more quality play-based early education for all Tasmanian children.
