Outlaw Bikie Gangs legislation passes

The Police Offences Amendment (Prohibited Insignia) Bill 2018 has today passed the Parliament.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has a tough-on-crime approach, and this legislation will give police the tools they need to crack down on Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, as well as send a clear message that organised crime gangs are not welcome in Tasmania.

We took this legislation to the election as the first part of our strong plan to keep the community safe from organised crime.

Labor should be ashamed of their behaviour through all of this. They are sticking with the bikies and their few criminal defence lawyers, having voted against the Bill in both the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council, including with the amendments from Legislative Councillors.

Labor has again confirmed how soft on crime they are, siding with organised crime gangs instead of putting the safety of Tasmanians first.

Today Labor even indicated they would keep pursuing their wish to water down this anti-gang legislation. This is a real worry.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting Tasmania Police and keeping Tasmanians safe, and the passing of this legislation is a big win for public safety.
