I was very pleased today to visit the Door of Hope in Launceston today to officially open the Hope Discovery All Abilities Playground.
The Liberal Government contributed $80,000 towards the construction of the Hope Discovery Playground, a disability and family-inclusive playground, delivering on an election commitment to the project.
Additional funding was provided by the Tasmanian Community Fund ($50 000), a member of the Door of Hope community ($15,000) and numerous other in-kind contributions.
Until now there has been no public playground in the Launceston region that caters for children with disabilities.
The playground will provide a unique play space for all children, especially for vulnerable children, or those with low mobility, who cannot access standard public playgrounds.
The playground is fully enclosed, contains AAA rated equipment with world standard safety compliance, and is carefully designed to engage each of the senses and encourage creative, imaginative and inclusive play.
The playground took four years from concept to completion, with construction having commenced in February this year.
I congratulate the Door of Hope Church on their initiative and look forward to families in Launceston enjoying this wonderful new facility.
