Tonight I will speak at the final night of competition for the 2014 Anderson-Morgan Tasmanian Open DanceSport Championships, which is a major event on the Australian DanceSport calendar.
The Liberal Government, through Events Tasmania, is proud to support this event, providing $20 000 annually. The current agreement provides support until 2016 to assist the organisers to grow and develop the event.
The event has been running for over 30 years, with the last four years hosted in Launceston at the Silverdome.
It is the only event of its type in Tasmania that offers local dancers a professional and nationally recognised event to compete in.
Registrations for the event have grown, with entries for this year's event up 40 per cent. Approximately 1 400 participants from around the country will attend. DanceSport provides the opportunity to participate in a nationally recognised event.
I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all the dancers for their hard work and dedication to be able to compete at this world class event. It is fabulous for both competitors and the general public that we are able to host this popular event in Launceston.
The Liberal Government remains committed to supporting an active Tasmania.
