Old Devonport Maternity Hospital site reborn

In an exciting development, approval has been granted to the Devonport City Council to sell the former Devonport Maternity Hospital site.

The Hodgman Government provided a $950,000 grant and worked closely with the Devonport City Council to fix a decade old problem and demolish the old hospital, remediate the area and prepare the site to be reborn.

We can now announce that following a tender process, the site is ready to enter into a new phase.

Local company KCB Development has been selected to repurpose the site, with hopes it could be used to construct affordable housing for our most vulnerable.

Such an investment will create jobs, boost the local economy and add to the buzz of the North West as one of Tasmanian’s investment hotspots.

This is another major project for the North West, complementing the Devonport Living Cities Project, the new University of Tasmania campus in Burnie and massive investments into the region’s road network.
