The Hodgman Liberal Government’s investment in free Wi-Fi will enhance the tourist experience in cities, towns and other popular tourist destinations across Tasmania.
Today I am pleased to announce that in time for today's official launch, 42 access points have been activated around the state and this number will eventually rise to more than 150.
Telstra has been contracted to deliver free Wi-Fi at locations that are frequently visited by tourists and determined in consultation with regional tourism organisations.
The network will include locations such as Queenstown, Sheffield, Latrobe, Freycinet, Cradle Mountain, Salamanca Place, Launceston and Port Arthur and regional locations such as Campbell Town, Geeveston, and Cygnet.
Tourists and locals alike will enjoy free Wi-Fi, as part of the Government's $500,000 commitment to boost the state’s connectivity.
The service is being rolled out this year to support the state’s thriving tourism sector and our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania each year by 2020.
Free Wi-Fi gives tourists the opportunity to immediately share their experience of Tasmania online and on social media, sending images of Tasmanian destinations around the world.
As part of the service, the Tasmanian public and visitors alike will be able to access 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi service, for each device, at each network location, each day.
