The leader of the Greens Cassy O’Connor has today undermined the position of the office of the Custodial Inspector by suggesting political interference in the redaction of the Custody Inspection Report.
This is blatant politicisation and utterly incorrect. We cannot and have not directed the independent Custodial Inspector to make redactions and to suggest otherwise is highly inappropriate and offensive.
The Custodial Inspector is an independent statutory officer appointed by the Governor. When performing his functions, the Inspector must act independently, impartially and in the public interest. I understand the redactions were made based on security considerations.
Cassy O’Connor should apologise for her pathetic smear and calling into question the integrity of the independent statutory position of the office of the Custodial Inspector.
