NWRH emergency department open

Keeping Tasmanians safe and secure is our highest priority as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak in the state’s North West.

Following a deep environmental clean to remove any trace of coronavirus, I’m pleased to announce the emergency department at the North West Regional Hospital has reopened.

The facility will initially be staffed by Australian Defence Force personnel under the leadership of AUSMAT while NWRH staff return from a mandatory 14 day quarantine.

The emergency department will be open 24 hours.

The public should be aware that the rest of the NWRH remains closed, and any patient requiring a higher level of care than what can be provided within the ED will be transferred to another hospital.

Any patient presenting to the ED with symptoms consistent with coronavirus should ensure they put on a mask when entering the facility and immediately tell staff of their symptoms.

We are extremely grateful for the support of all staff and people associated with cleaning the emergency department to enable it to reopen.

The teams will continue to progressively clean and reopen the NWRH and the NWPH to ensure North West residents have access to the healthcare they need.
