Up to 200 Tasmanian nurses and midwives will gather in Hobart today to discuss their expanding professional roles and celebrate the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife.
The two-day Tasmanian Nursing and Midwifery Conference is being held almost 200 years after the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
Nurses and midwives from the public and private sectors will come together to showcase their achievements in leadership, collaboration, research and innovation over the years.
They will also discuss the growing diversity of the roles and responsibilities of their professions in Australia and around the world.
The conference includes inspiring speakers from Tasmania and interstate who will talk about the future of the occupations.
Tasmania has more than 9,000 private and public nurses and midwives who do a wonderful job and are the backbone of our health system.
This year gives the whole community a chance to honour the significant and ongoing contribution nurses and midwives make to the health and wellbeing of our communities.
The conference is being held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor and is supported by the Department of Health.
