Nominate great educators and employees

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to excellence in education and to help achieve this we must recognise our high achievers within the education sector.

Tasmanians are being urged to nominate exceptional teachers, principals, volunteers and staff for the RBF Department of Education Awards for Excellence recognising our very best public educators and those that provide essential education services and support.

The awards, now in their fifth year, are a Department of Education initiative delivered in partnership with Retirement Benefits Fund, Teachers Health Fund and Wrest Point showing the significant value and priority of recognising high education standards.

The RBF Department of Education Awards for Excellence is an opportunity for Tasmanians to publically acknowledge the dedication and commitment of the staff and volunteers who work in Tasmanian Government schools and have demonstrated outstanding excellence, innovation and talent in 2015.

Primary and secondary school educators can be nominated for the Teacher and Principal of the Year awards recognising those individuals who have made a significant difference in developing and extending children’s learning.

Young educators are also recognised with the Teachers Health Fund Outstanding Young Teacher award recognising exemplary young teachers who were under 28 years old last year.

Staff who support learning such as teachers assistants, administrative and support staff, social workers, speech and language pathologists, and school psychologists are also eligible for specific awards.

Parents and other members of the community who are doing exceptional volunteer work and providing extensive support and engagement with schools are eligible for the Volunteers of the Year award.

I’d also encourage members of the public and staff within the Department to consider nominating staff for the Departmental Employee of the Year, LINC Tasmania Employee of Year, Wrest Point Young Employee of the Year and Outstanding Team of the Year awards.

Recognising excellence is important, not only in rewarding people for their outstanding work, but also because it provides an opportunity to share information and inspirational insights, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes for our students.

These awards and nominations showcase the talented and dedicated staff and volunteers working in public education and their incredible achievements.

Nominations for the awards are open and close on Sunday 5 June.

Finalists in all award categories will be invited to a state-wide awards ceremony where award winners will be announced on 28 October.
