The Hodgman Liberal Government is bringing forward its commitment to deliver 20 school nurses into Government schools by 2018.
There are currently 15 Registered Nurses working in our public schools with another five commencing this year.
The recruitment process has been brought forward to help improve the health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s children and young people sooner, which means a total of 81 schools across the state will receive support from a school nurse from 2017.
School nurses help students deal with a range of health issues that can have life-long consequences if not addressed, from mental health and wellbeing, to body image and healthy relationships.

This intake builds on the specialised health service our Primary School Health Nurses and Secondary School Health Nurses are already providing to students enrolled in targeted schools since July 2015.
With the Budget back on track, we are making the structural change and targeted investment that is necessary to give every Tasmanian student a better education and greater opportunities in life.
