International Women’s Day is the global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women.
The International Women’s Day Big Breakfast in Hobart was the biggest celebration yet, with over 650 guests, featuring leading businesswoman and women’s AFL advocate Dr Susan Alberti AC as guest speaker.
During the 2017 Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation’s (RHHRF) fundraiser I launched the Government’s new ‘one-stop-shop’ women.tas.gov.au website and Facebook page.
A key action in our Tasmanian Women’s Plan 2013-2018, this new resource includes information about policies, programs, services, organisations and events for women.
It will also promote opportunities for Tasmanian women and girls so they can connect to all political, social and economic aspects of life in this State.
We all have seen many positive changes, with women on boards increasing to 40 per cent, a dedicated Minister for Women, Tasmania’s first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, and Tasmania’s first female Governor and Chief Magistrate.
I also acknowledge there are still many inequities for women, and I will continue to strive to ensure all are given the same opportunities to reach their full potential.
Any women's organisations or services for women that are not listed on the website are welcome to contact the Principal Liaison Officer for Women in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, or call 03 6232 7296.
