New Waimea Heights Primary School kindergarten an inviting learning environment

A new kindergarten and playground is catering for increasing enrolments at Waimea Heights Primary School, in Sandy Bay, and providing an inviting learning environment.

Today, I had the honour of officially opening the new facilities, which feature a two-room kindergarten building and playground area purpose-built for younger children.

The $950,000 project was completed in time for the beginning of this school year.

Featuring natural timbers and colours, and providing for natural light and heating, and rainwater collection, the modern and flexible kindergarten facilities provide a wonderful space for children to learn and grow.

The playground has been designed to make the most of the natural environment, including existing mature trees.

This great new facility is also being used for the school's Launching into Learning program, which supports children's early learning prior to kindergarten.

The new building and playground are a credit to Hobart-based architects M2Architecture and local builders Hansen Yuncken.
