New vehicles to help more learner drivers get their licence

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to helping learner drivers experiencing disadvantage gain the experience they need to get their drivers licence.

That’s why we are investing in the Learner Driver Mentor Program (LDMP), which assists learners in gaining the essential hours of driving experience needed to obtain a driving licence.

Six Tasmanian providers took possession of brand new learner vehicles under the Program today, as part of our $1 million commitment every year to the program.

We know that lack of a drivers licence is a significant barrier towards young people gaining employment, and this program is making a real difference in the lives of many disadvantaged Tasmanians.

Sixteen providers currently operate across Tasmania, helping more than 220 learners and supported by 180 volunteer mentors. Last month alone 12 learners received their provisional licence after participating in the program.

Each of the new cars delivered today are rated to the maximum ANCAP five-star safety level, replacing their existing three-star or less rate vehicles ensuring these inexperienced and sometimes nervous learner drivers are as safe as they can be.

The new vehicles are another way the Hodgman Liberal Government is working on your behalf to make the  lives of Tasmanians even better.
