New Swansea boat ramp

A new boat ramp at Swansea is nearing completion that will provide Tasmanians and tourists with safer and more reliable access to some of the finest recreational boating waters in Australia.

Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure Rene Hidding said the new boat ramp will benefit the entire east coast.

“The new ramp will not only ensure better amenities for residents, it will also provide opportunities for jobs and future growth in the tourism sector,” Mr Hidding said.

“The works are being completed by Tasmanian company Tas Maritime Construction, which is supporting local jobs and putting money back into the regional economy in line with our Buy Local Policy.”

Liberal Senator for Tasmania Jonathan Duniam said the upgraded ramp will result in improved safety outcomes while benefitting local businesses.

“The new ramp will provide access at all tides for users of this popular facility including the Freycinet Volunteer Marine Rescue Association, which will improve safety at the ramp and on the water,” Senator Duniam said.

“The design of the new ramp includes two lanes to meet the existing demand, and incorporates a new landing stage and a wave screen to provide shelter to the ramp.

“It’s yet another example of the Tasmanian and Commonwealth Government’s working together to benefit the Tasmanian community.”

The Tasmanian Government, through Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST), has committed $700,000 towards this important project, with the Federal Government committing a further $600,000 through the National Stronger Regions Fund.
