New sponsorship agreement a win for racing

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to backing Tasmania’s $100 million racing industry so it can continue to employ thousands of Tasmanians.

Today, I am pleased to welcome Tasracing’s new, three-year naming rights partnership with Tabcorp, one of Australia’s major betting agencies.

This commercial arrangement will deliver significant benefits to the State’s racing industry and will see Tabcorp, through its Luxbet brand, have naming rights for the Elwick, Mowbray and Spreyton racetracks, the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival and the high-profile Hobart and Launceston Cups.

Importantly, Tasracing has also negotiated a new, exclusive 10-year media rights deal with the Tabcorp-owned Sky Racing.

The deal allows for continued and enhanced cooperative arrangements for international broadcasts, which are a growing part of the market.

Tasracing also has the right to stream all Tasmanian racing live on its website and through the sites of every Tasmanian racing club.

Work is ongoing on developing the technology that will deliver this service, and it is expected it will be launched later this year.

Innovation and partnerships are critical to ensuring Tasmanian racing continues to hold its place and hopefully grow in a changing market.

Tabcorp’s investment in Tasmanian racing is a welcome boost for the industry and demonstrates that it is very much taken seriously on the national stage.
