New Round of Scholarships for Women Aspiring to Lead

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring women have more opportunities to gain leadership roles in our community.

Our partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is helping to achieve this by giving more Tasmanian women the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to serve on boards.

We are supporting the AICD to offer corporate governance education scholarships for its Company Director Course and its Foundations of Directorship.

Applications are now open for the third year of scholarships, with the courses to be offered in 2018.

So far, six women have received scholarships for the Company Director Course and 32 for the Foundations of Directorship.

By helping more Tasmanian women to complete these courses we are breaking down the barriers that might stand in their way of applying for board positions.

We also have a target of women having 50 per cent representation on Government boards and committees by July 2020, which I am pleased to say we are making progress on achieving.

Since the release of our Women on Boards Strategy in 2015 government board positions held by women have increased to nearly 40 per cent from 33.8 per cent.

But we need to do more, and I really encourage Tasmanian women to consider applying for these scholarships.

Applications close COB Friday 15 September. For further information and to apply online visit: http://aicd.companydirectors.com.au/education/scholarships
