ABS figures released today show that retail in Tasmania has hit a new record high for January.
This is another sign that the economy is recovering and while there is still a long way to go, the Government's long-term Plan is all about supporting economic growth and job creation.
We already know that Tasmanian business confidence is the highest in the nation and these figures show that confidence is growing right through the community.
The Government is supporting the retail sector with the Your Purchase Has Power campaign, which encourages Tasmanians to support local retailers. The campaign has had an overwhelmingly positive response and we are confident the campaign will underpin strong retail spending into the future.
Our strong tourism, agriculture, aquaculture and construction and building sectors are all contributing to the growth in retail and since the election, nearly 7,000 jobs have been created which has had a positive impact on our economy.
