New research hub for forestry in Tasmania

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to creating jobs and rebuilding the forestry industry after the Labor-Green Government nearly destroyed it.

The Government warmly welcomes the Turnbull Government’s funding announcement of $2 million for a National Institute for Forest Products Innovation research hub, to be located at the Launceston University of Tasmania campus, and I am pleased to announce the Tasmanian Government will match this funding to deliver this important development.

The research hub will explore innovative ways to grow the forest and forest products industry, and provide opportunities for jobs and growth in areas such as forest management, timber processing, wood fibre recovery, advanced manufacturing and the bio-economy.

This is a fantastic outcome for Tasmania and demonstrates the positive outcomes that come from majority Liberal Governments working together to create jobs and growth.

The industry is recovering after we tore up the disastrous Labor-Green forest deal, and we will continue to get on with the job of building a strong, sustainable forestry industry for Tasmania.
