New registrar to help ensure our teachers are of the highest quality

A new registrar has been appointed to the Teachers Registration Board, a body charged with ensuring Tasmania's teachers are highly skilled, qualified and of good character.

Lee Anne Rayner brings a wealth of experience in the education and legal communities to the position of registrar.

Ms Rayner will join the recently appointed chair of the Board, Stephen Mannering.

With 10 members nominated by a range of stakeholders in the state's education community, the Teachers Registration Board registers, as its name suggests, people wanting to work as teachers in Tasmania.

The Board is self-funded, and works with all stakeholders in formulating and maintaining a code of professional ethics for the teaching profession.

Our schools are only as good as our teachers, and the Board plays a critical role in ensuring our teachers are of the highest quality.

On behalf of the Liberal Government, I congratulate Ms Rayner and Mr Mannering on their appointments and commend all Board members for their important work.
