New Productions Secure Screen Tasmania Funding

New Screen Tasmania funding for a number of productions to be made in the state will help to continue our screen industry's extraordinary growth.

Funding for five new screen productions has been announced. Screen Tasmania's support for these productions will provide important opportunities for local screen professionals, as well as contribute to growing our economy by attracting production investment to Tasmania.

One of the productions to be funded is Fanshaw & Crudnut – a 26 x half hour animated children's television series and feature-length movie commissioned by Nine Network Australia. This is a co-production between Tasmanian company Blue Rocket, Beyond International and Indian company Criya Innfotainment.

Fanshaw & Crudnut represents the first of a proposed $18 million series of co-productions between Blue Rocket, Beyond International, one of Australia's largest production groups, and Criya Innfotainment.

Senior executives from Beyond International and Criya Innfotainment are in Hobart this week to promote the production with Blue Rocket.

The production of Fanshaw & Crudnut will result in over $3.9 million to be spent locally over two years, providing over 40 jobs for Tasmanian cast and crew as well as cash flow to several Tasmanian suppliers.

It is very exciting to have yet another major production taking place with Tasmanian involvement, and shows the confidence that production companies are increasingly developing in Tasmania's screen industry.

Projects to be funded by Screen Tasmania include:

  • Production investment of $60,000 in TRU – Thylacine Research Unit – a two x one hour television documentary series for Discovery's Animal Planet.
  • Production investment of $40,000 in Bespoke – a three x half hour television documentary series for ABC Arts.
  • Production investment of $300,000 over three financial years in Fanshaw & Crudnut – a 26 x half hour animated children's series and 90 minute telemovie for the Nine Network Australia. A co-production between Tasmanian company Blue Rocket productions,  Indian company Criya Entertainment, and Beyond Productions.
  • Development Investment of $19,850 in Rosehaven – an eight x 27 minute television comedy series for the ABC written by and starring comedians Tasmanian born, Luke McGregor and Celia Pacquola.
  • Festival and Events Funding of $5,500 in Flickerfest – to support the Tasmanian tour and seminar program of the only Australian Academy Award™ qualifying short film festival Flickerfest. Tasmanian short films will be screened as part of the program at each venue in Hobart, Launceston and Cygnet.

These investments will generate a direct spend by in the state of more than $4m and employ over 50 Tasmanian cast and crew.

This production activity contributes to employment, and economic outcomes for the state whilst building entrepreneurial businesses in diverse creative industry sectors.

Executives from Beyond International, Blue Rocket and Criya Innfotainment will be available to speak to media about Fanshaw & Crudnut at 1.45pm today, Friday 30 January, at Level 2, 13-17 Castray Esplanade, Salamanca.
