New North-West mine gets green light

The proposed Rogetta open cut iron ore mine south of Burnie has been granted approval by the Australian Government following a comprehensive environmental assessment.

The proponent, Forward Mining, has announced the go-ahead for the $100 million project, which will create more than 200 jobs during construction and up to 100 permanent positions.

The Rogetta mine will deliver a significant boost to regional Tasmania, with the potential to generate export revenues of up to $100 million each year.

Forward Mining now has the green light to extract, process and transport the high grade iron ore to Burnie for export.

Rogetta is the latest example of why the Hodgman Liberal Government is the biggest and most consistent supporter of Tasmania’s resources industry.

It’s also why we have committed $2 million to an exploration grants program to promote new drilling to underpin the future of the mining industry.
