A $2.3 million modern redevelopment of New Norfolk High School has delivered a new state of the art Year 11 and 12 area, an outdoor courtyard, and a refurbished Year 7 block for Derwent Valley students.
Part of the Tasmanian Government’s biggest investment in school infrastructure in over 20 years, It was my pleasure to today officially open the revamped facilities at New Norfolk High School.
The refurbishment has provided a flexible, highly functional and attractive learning environment and is a great example of what can be achieved in our schools to support students and teachers.
The new outdoor courtyard at the school provides a space for students to learn outdoors and enjoy during their recess and lunch times. It is also a wonderful area to hold school events, and appropriately brings the magnificent natural landscape of the Derwent Valley into the heart of the school.
The project is part of our continued Capital Works upgrades to government schools, providing improved learning environments for Tasmanian students while also driving economic growth and creating jobs.
Our plan to extend Tasmanian high schools to Year 12, including investing in new modern infrastructure is working because we have more students staying in school longer and achieving more while they are there. There is no better evidence of this than a more than 10 per cent increase in attainment of the Tasmanian Certificate of Education, sending a clear message that school does not finish at Year 10.
