One of Tasmania’s premier attractions – the Tahune AirWalk – will have a new life under a dedicated private operator.
Since it opened on 1 July 2001, more than 1.4 million people have visited the walkway, enjoying breathtaking views over the Huon and Picton rivers, near Geeveston in the State’s South.
With its renewed focus under the Hodgman Liberal Government on its core business of growing trees, managing land and selling wood, Forestry Tasmania sought to sell the business to a private operator.
Today, we can announce that Tahune Pty Ltd is taking on the business as a going concern with exciting plans for future development.
The new operators, headed by major shareholder and former manager of the Tahune AirWalk, Ken Stronach, will commence next Friday, 16 December, in time for the busy summer season.
This is an exciting time for the must-see attraction and the local tourism industry as we will soon have a dedicated and focused new operator with plans to restore the number of visitors to levels not seen for well over a decade.
Forestry Tasmania is selling the business and leasing the facilities, but will retain ownership of the fixed assets and the land.
The Government is pleased with this outcome and wishes the new operators well.
